RECORDING
Recording artists and bands live is our bag. Whether you prefer recording separately with overdubs or capturing the energy and vibe of all playing together live, we can do whatever is best for you. Making music sound great is what we live for, so when you record at The Fold, you can be sure that our engineers are as passionate about making your tunes sound great as you are.
Our impressive mic collection allows us maximum flexibility with micing techniques, so whether you are after a tight, controlled close mic setup, or a more open and ambient sounding recording, we can cater for your taste.
We are also very interested in creative recording techniques, and are able to take our studio on location – If you want to go and record drums in a multi-story car park, or re-amp your lead vocal though a cranked guitar amp, we’re up for it! We’ll do whatever it takes to make your record stand out from the crowd.
MIXING
Mixing is the most exciting part of the process for us and we think we’re damn good at it! Click on the music player to hear examples of recent tracks we have produced and mixed and see if you agree.
Once again, we believe that creativity and fresh ideas are paramount. Our recent mixes have included vocals re-recorded through a baked bean can. Having said that, we are just as happy to leave your mixes simple and just get them sounding bangin’!
MASTERING
The Fold can offer a limited mastering service. We don’t specialise in mastering but we can bring your tracks up to a level that will match standards in the market, as well as making sure that they are well balanced across the frequency spectrum.
If you are using your songs in a professional capacity, we recommend that you get them mastered by an expert as mastering is a very specialized skill that takes years to perfect.
PRODUCTION
We also offer full production at negotiable rates. All of us at The Fold are musicians and production is something we all love. We offer arrangement, (including vocals, brass and strings) song restructuring and a fresh, objective angle that often makes the difference between a good demo and a proper record.
As well as having the heads for production, we also have the right tools. Over the years, we have managed to collect a multitude of interesting and fun musical toys, from Didgeridoos and melodicas, to a wealth of percussion. We also have the best Native Instrument soft synths and sample libraries to introduce fantastic sounding grand piano, strings, Hammond B3, Rhodes and Wurlitzer into the mix.
We also believe that pre-production is a vital part of the production process. That’s why we offer free pre-production sessions to anyone having their album or EP produced at The Fold. We will demo all your songs for free and sit down with you to discuss what is working and what might need to be changed or improved before the recording process proper begins.
VOICEOVER
We offer straightforward, “to picture” and “not to picture” voiceover recording, using our cleanest, flattest mics, the Neumann U87 or the AKG C414B XLS, through our least colourful pre-amps, the Focusrite ISA 428 to produce an accurate, detailed voice recording with the lowest possible noise floor.
All our voiceover recording is done at 24bit, with your choice of sample rates at 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96kHz.
